Review of Lady Oscar
Okay, I've made over three HUNDRED screen captures from the Jacques Demy Lady Oscar film, which is impossible to find any information on or images from as it's a sleeper (hit?) of his. Most BeruBara fans don't like this movie very much, but I have to admit this movie was not entirely bad. Taken in context, and understanding that you cannot simply convert a 40-episode anime directly to a 90-minute film, Lady Oscar could have been much worse. The acting is decent at best, but the costumes are gorgeous, as is the cinematography and setting. It is a movie feast for the eyes more than it is for the ears or the heart, because given the changes in character and the different interpretations of the characters by their actors, it is hard to find this movie moving at all. I won't elucidate as I don't want to spoil it, because there are a lot of changes in this movie that are pleasant to see. However, if you want details into what was changed (without too many spoilers), I'll try to elaborate on the "differences between the anime, manga and movie" section. Here, though, I'll just add one last thing about the movie: if you're in the right mood and you really love BeruBara to the point you can bear to laugh at it a little bit, you might enjoy this movie in the way I do (get out a cold beer, get some friends, and laugh together while enjoying seeing your favorite characters acted by real people).
Although the following screencaps represent less than half of the scenes from the movie, it still took me two days to capture and reformat all these pictures, so DO NOT STEAL THEM under any circumstances! It will be pretty obvious that they were taken from me as I am the only website on the internet with this many pictures from the movie. (The next largest gallery has about 20 pictures, and they're not DVD quality). On with the pictures.....
These pictures are huge and high quality, so I have them listed here in increments of 25, and there are exactly 351 caps total (a total of about 50 MB of pictures). Please bear this in mind when surfing. Also, keep in mind there are MAJOR spoilers scattered throughout, and the movie is NOT the same thing as the anime or manga, so if you plan on watching this movie, you will be spoiled!
DO NOT TAKE AND/OR REDISTRIBUTE THESE IMAGES!
